Remember how I mentioned I wanted to find some cheap chairs for the backyard? Well while I was waiting to meet up with a friend for dinner, I happened to stop in Target…as one does. I was looking for a runner for our stair project and happened to walk past a display with these chairs.
They may or may not have come home with me, and now live in my backyard. It’s funny, the same thing happened at Home Goods a few months ago with a faux plant. Without further ado, here are all the details on my latest impulse buys: potted plants and patio furniture.
Stylish? Check. Comfy? Check. Powdered Coated Steel? Check. Under $40? Check. Seriously, it was love at first sight. I’ve been looking for something similar, and fell in love with this one from Target’s patio collection, but had heard it had problems rusting outside. Also, they weren’t as comfy as the ones I picked up.
Getting them into my car along with a baby, a carpet runner, a stroller, and my dignity was a challenge. Momma was SWEATY at the end of it, and I may or may not have had to repack my car. Twice. In any event, here they are in their new home. I love the way the horizontal lines play against the lines of the table. Oh and don’t mind the leaves and the rug. I cannot keep this porch clean, no matter how often I sweep stuff off.
I think my favorite part is that they came with cushions. I’m not usually a cushion person, so that kind of surprised me. I think they can tend to be a little too shabby chic for my taste, but the way these are attached to the base is more minimal. The chair is super comfy with or without the cushion, so if they get gross a few years down the road, it’ll be ok.
I definitely think once we have a little more money to spend out here, I would love spray painting these a fun color. Maybe yellow or turquoise blue? Maybe white? That along with the table would make for a really nice, fresh backyard. But I’m working with what I’ve got for now, and the black on black looks really nice.
I can’t wait until it cools off a bit and we can spend more time out here. It’s been over 100 degrees for WEEKS now and I’m super ready for cooler fall weather. As you can see, our backyard is still a mud pit with no landscaping, but one step at a time.
I’m super glad these chairs were the right height. I’ve found that measuring for that is a must do before going chair shopping, but I bought these on a whim. I was a little worried they’d be too low for the table, but they ended up being just right.
Another little update outside is this plant on our front porch. I can’t keep any real plants alive, so when I was walking around Home Goods earlier this year and stumbled upon this beauty, I jumped on it. It’s a faux plant that looks great, especially from the street. It’s fared really well over the past few months (plastic does that!), and I’ve been very happy with it. We also get the added benefit of a little extra privacy on our front porch.
The pot is seriously heavy duty, and the texture on the top of it is such a nice contrast to the smooth gray down below. I always wanted to throw pottery, and I like to think I could make something like this. I know that is completely not true with my current skill set, but a girl can dream! Anyway, it’s heavy and it won’t blow over, even in our strong Texas breezes.
There’s definitely a few more upgrades we want to do out here, like painting the trim, painting/replacing the door, and installing a cuter door handle, but those things might be a bit down the road. We’ve got a staircase to finish! But I want to know: what have you guys brought home with you as a result of an impulse buy lately? Do potted plants also jump in your cart spontaneously? I know, right? It’s weird!
